  • What is AAHA Accreditation?
Accreditation with the American Animal Hospital Association is 100% voluntary for veterinary hospitals. To achieve AAHA accreditation, a veterinary hospital must meet or exceed hundreds of standards covering all aspects of veterinary care and business. These standards are continually updated to keep pace with advancements in veterinary medicine, ensuring that accredited hospitals remain at the forefront of the profession. • What sort of animals do you see?
Here at Midway all of our doctors see a wide array of species. We of course welcome dogs and cats, but we also see a large variety of exotics. We see birds - to include chickens, ducks and geese, reptiles, amphibians, and even a few arachnid patients! We also see small pet pigs and small goats, but we do not currently see large herd animals. We also do not see primates. If you have a pet and you're unsure if we could see them, please feel free to reach out!
  • Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes! Appointments are required to allow us to plan for the appropriate amount of time to spend with each of our patients. We do not offer walk in care at this time, but same day appointments are sometimes available. Give us a call at (757)366-4050 if you would like to schedule.
  • Do you accept my pet's insurance?
Currently, most pet insurance companies utilize a reimbursement based business model. This will require you to pay for your pet's care in full at time of service and submit documentation to the insurance company for review and reimbursement. We are happy to forward necessary medical records to assist you in this process. Please note that we are unable to determine whether services or medications are covered. We encourage you to review policy documents and/or contact the insurance company for guidance.
  • What is Care Credit?
Care Credit is a health care centered credit card accepted at over 260,000 health human care facilities and veterinarians. For visits to our hospital in which costs exceed $200, Care Credit offers deferred interest for 6 months to allow you to pay over time. For more information or to apply, you can visit www.carecredit.com.
  • What are my payment options?
We are unable to bill for services, therefore payment is due in full at time of service. For your convenience, we accept cash, Mastercard, Visa, Discover and Care Credit. We do not accept checks. We are happy to provide an estimated cost of care during your pet's appointment!
  • Are you accepting new patients?
We are always accepting new patients. For new clients who haven't brought a pet to us before, we do require a non-refundable deposit be placed in order to schedule a visit with us. This deposit is the cost of the exam fee and will go directly toward the doctor's exam at the time of your visit!
  • Are you an emergency hospital?
While we can certainly address emergent situations, we are not currently equipped or staffed as a full service emergency facility. For this reason, we can only accept emergencies on a limited, case by case basis. We do not have overnight staff, so pets requiring overnight monitoring may to be referred to a local emergency hospital. If you feel your pet is experiencing a medical emergency during office hours, please give us a call. If we are unable to accommodate an emergency visit, our staff can provide information for other local veterinary urgent care / emergency facilities.
  • Do you offer tail docking, ear cropping, declawing, etc?
We do not offer tail docking, ear cropping or dewclaw removal without a medical necessity. We do not perform onychectomy (declawing) surgeries as they often lead to a life of pain for the patient and the procedure was outlawed in the state of Virginia as of April 2024. As an alternative, we are happy to schedule a behavioral consultation with you and your cat to discuss ways to manage scratching behaviors.
  • Can you issue a health certificate for my pet to travel?
We are able to issue domestic and international health certificates for pet travel. However, many countries and states outside of the continental US require significant steps be taken prior to issuing health certificates that may take several months to satisfy. Please make sure to research your destination prior to scheduling a visit to ensure you allow the requisite amount of time to ensure your pet can meet all regulations and travel with you! • How do I request a refill on my pet's medication?
You can make refill requests either by phone or via the Petdesk app for medications to pick up at the hospital. We do ask that you allow at least 24-48 hours notice to refill medications. Effective December 2024, all prescription refills for controlled drugs must be prepaid. If you are requesting a refill of a special order medication, please give at least 7 days notice to allow the compounding pharmacies time to make and ship the medication. We also have an online pharmacy that is directly linked to your pet's medical record that offers shipping directly to your home.
